Barnet 2 Morecambe 0

Morecambe are still looking for their first win of the season after a frustrating night at Underhill.

The Shrimps suffered their second successive defeat after gifting the Bees an early goal.

Sammy McIlroy's side, who were forced to travel without defenders Will Haining and Jim Bentley, started well enough with Ian Craney close to opening the scoring in the first minute when put through by Phil Jevons but saw his clever curler come back off the post.

Unfortunately that was the highlight of the first half as the Shrimps went a goal down seconds later when the veteran Paul Furlong was presented with an easy chance which he lashed past Barry Roche from six yards.

Young Barnet striker Jake Hyde missed a golden chance to double the advantage a minute later when he headed straight at Roche.

After the shock start Morecambe came close again when Jevons forced Jake Cole into a decent save and Dave Artell was inches away from connecting with a Neil Wainwright cross.

The Shrimps looked much the better in the second half and dominated possession and they were denied what looked a perfectly good equaliser when Laurence Wilson bundled home a Michael Twiss cross at the far post but saw his effort ruled out for a foul in a decision that infuriated the Morecambe bench.

The Shrimps continued to press with new signing Manny Panther enjoying a solid debut but their hopes of a comeback were dashed when Barnet were awarded a soft penalty eight minutes from time.

Darren Moss brought down Albert Jarrett in the box and the same player brushed himself down to send Roche the wrong way from the spot-kick.

The game ended with sub Wayne Curtis missing a golden chance to give Morecambe a late goal as he failed to find the target from six yards out.
