Matt Lawlor got the opening goal for Brig

The home side took the lead on 22 minutes. Ally Waddecarr’s free-kick was pushed away by the Ossett goalkeeper. The ball fell to a defender, only for his clearance to bounce of the head of Matt Lawlor and bundle over the line.

And Brig made it 2-0 when Regan Linney unleashed a shot from 25 yards.

Brig keeper Steven James saved a penalty, before a spot-kick at the other end was missed by Waddecarr, but Sam Staunton-Turner smashed the rebound low into the far corner to make it 3-0.

And the rout was completed just two minutes from time, Aaron Flemming heading home.

Brig manager Neil Reynolds claimed it was a perfect performance.

“We executed the game plan brilliantly and it was a perfect performance – 4-0 at home, with a good crowd and another three points,” he said.

Brig remain in 11th place in the table, with hopes of a late play-off push still on the cards.

Two consecutive matches against top-of-the-table Farsley Celtic await Bamber Bridge next.

Elsewhere, in the National League North, Danny Rowe scored both goals as AFC Fylde won 2-1 at Gainsborough Trinity.

Southport remain bottom of the National League after being beaten 2-1 at home by fellow-strugglers Torquay United.

The Gulls took the lead in the 35th minute, a left-foot volley by Luke Young which gave keeper Craig King, on his home debut, no chance.

The equaliser did not arrive until the start of the second half when Jim Stevenson cracked a bullet shot past Brendan Moore in off the post.

Either side could have won it with missed chances galore until substitute Ruari Keating guided his shot into the far corner from the narrowest of angles to give Torquay the victory.
