Boss Reynolds hands over responsibility to players

Since taking over from Neil Crowe in December, the new Brig boss is keen that his charges think for themselves and take care of their own obligations.

“I have changed a few things and one of the things I have done is give the players a weekly schedule to follow,” Reynolds.

“Rather than have me texting them all the time reminding them about training and games, etc. It is their responsibility to make sure that they turn up for training and games on time.

“To be fair all the players have bought into it and whenever a new player comes in, it’s the players who tell them how we do things not me.”

Brig’s schedule will certainly have had a few alterations over the past week after their past three games all fell foul of the weather. Games away to Colne, and Clitheroe and Saturday’s home game against Ossett Town were all postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

It will mean by the time this Saturday comes around, they will have gone three weeks without kicking a ball in competitive action. The Northern Premier League are hoping to rejig the First Division North fixture list so that last weekend’s game against Ossett Town at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium goes ahead this weekend, although that has yet to be confirmed.

On Tuesday next week, Brig then host NPL Premier Division side Ashton United in the quarter-finals of the League Cup – a competition which Reynolds has targeted winning. “I want to win the League Cup,” he said. “We have a very difficult game against Ashton United in the last eight. They are in the division above and are a good side, but we are capable of beating them if we play like we can.”

On the injury front, Chris Marlow could come into the squad after spending the past month on the sidelines.
