Manchester United completed a double swoop with the signings of Germany World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger and Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin on Monday.

And in a further boost the club have revealed the inclusion of goalkeeper David De Gea in their squad for the pre-season tour to the United States, seemingly ruling out any imminent move to Real Madrid.

The arrivals at Old Trafford of Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin continue United’s summer statement of intent following earlier deals for Dutchman Memphis Depay and Torino defender Matteo Darmian.

Schweinsteiger’s move to Old Trafford means he will link up again with United boss Louis Van Gaal, under whom he played at Bayern Munich for two years.

Schweinsteiger said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Bayern Munich, it has been an incredible journey and I didn’t take the decision to leave lightly.

“Manchester United is the only club that I would have left Munich for.

“I feel ready for this new and exciting challenge in what I regard as the most competitive league in the world and I am looking forward to working with Louis van Gaal again.

“I will never forget my time at Bayern Munich and I would like to thank everyone at the club and the fans for the great memories.”

Schweinsteiger has agreed a three-year deal while 25-year-old Schneiderlin has signed for four years with the option of a further one-year extension.

France international Schneiderlin said: “I am delighted to be a Manchester United player. Once I learned that United were interested in signing me, it was a very easy decision to make.

“I have enjoyed seven happy years with Southampton and it’s a club that will always be in my heart. But the chance to be part of this squad was too good to miss.”
