Fairway to victory at Fishwick Hall

Fishwick Hall Golf Club are celebrating a winning year on the fairways.

For the first time in 17 years the club won the Preston and District Golf League, a dramatic last-hole putt clinching top spot.

The Glenluce Drive-based club also lifted the Stirrup Cup, while 16-year-old Josh Gardner completed a hat-trick,winning the Lancashire Juniors event.

Overseeing it all was Phil Myerscough, Fishwick Hall's captain this year, who was delighted with the trophy-laden campaign.

He said: "The club hadn't won the Preston and District Golf League since 1992, so this was a major achievement.

"It was a huge team effort, and we had a squad of 30 golfers who all played their part.

"We played against eight other clubs during the season and the finale was very dramatic – we won it in our last game against Shaw Hill, on the last hole with the last putt.

"Bradley Ogden holed a three-foot putt. I couldn't bear to watch because it was so tense!

"We've got a great bunch of golfers here. We're known as 'Friendly Fishwick' and the spirit here is fantastic.

"It's been a good year, and Josh Gardner won the Lancashire Juniors event, which was staged at Preston Golf Club.

"Josh did really well because there were 120 youngsters involved in that competition, and he's one of only 10 junior players at our club.

"We also won the Stirrup Cup, which is a competition involving a four-man team from the clubs in the Preston area."
