International table tennis is returning to Preston later this month.
England will take on Australia at the Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre on Sunday, July 20.
The match has been brought to the city thanks to the efforts of UCLan and Preston Table Tennis Association
It will be both teams’ final stop before competing in the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, which is being held from July 23 until August 3.
And it comes two years after the teams met in Preston just ahead of the Olympic Games
All of the top men’s and women’s talent in England will be playing.
The men’s squad comprises World No.55 Liam Pitchford, Paul Drinkhall, Andrew Baggaley, Daniel Reed and Sam Walker.
The women’s team comprises Joanna Drinkhall (previously Parker), Hannah Hicks, Kelly Sibley, Karina Le Fevre and Tin-Tin Ho.
Jim Clegg, from Preston Table Tennis Association, said: “We are delighted to be able to stage yet another international game here in Preston.
“Over the past few years, we have managed to lure the national team to the city almost annually, but it’s a real coup to get them here on the eve of the Commonwealth Games.
“I strongly urge people to come on down and support this event – I can guarantee the action will be absolutely top class.”
The action at UCLan’s state-of-the-art Marsh Lane facility will take place from 2pm until about 5pm.
Tickets will be available on the door and cost just £3.
