Defeat for Leyland youngsters

Leyland Warriors'˜ Under-7s team welcomed Wigan St Jude's to Moss Side for their first game of the season but slipped to a 12-6 defeat.

Warriors’ Finley Kavanagh burst down the left wing, and evaded a number of players to score the first try of the game.

Wigan St Jude’s then scored their first try, powering through the defensive line, and went on to win the clash.

Warriors’ Under-8s side drew five tries apiece with Rylands Sharks.

Leyland’s tries came from Alfie Fell (2), Liam Bentham, Harry Bluck and Matthew Broadfield. The top tackler was awarded to Danyal Randall and the man of 
the match was Konya Sonnah.

The Under-10s side lost 26-14 at home to Langworthy Reds.

Langworthy were persistent in their attack, and three tries were scored before half-time, while Warriors still had a blank score sheet.

Leyland came out rejuvenated in the second half, and with Farlan McMahon setting the standard with some great tackling and attacking runs, Owen Van-Boyd got the ball and ran the full length of the pitch to score an impressive try.

Two further tries followed, and Van-Boyd also kicked a conversion, putting Leyland back in the game.

Langworthy hit back, and their hard work paid off with further tries, followed with a conversion.

Warriors Under-11s lost 32-16 in their first game of the campaign against Newton Storm.

Leyland started the first half on the attack, and Harry Storey was straight on to the first opportunity to run down the wing and score the first try.

Newton were quick to reply and scored a try but, like Leyland, also missed their conversion.

Newton managed to slip past Leyland’s defence and score another try.

Storey scored his second try of the game, but Newton managed to secure a further two tries and kicked the conversions for a 20-8 
half-time lead.

Leyland’s third try of the game came from Ellis Grice, but with Warriors tiring, Newton managed to score three more tries.

The Under-13s side lost 
28-18 at Haydock. Daniel Rimmer (two) and Dylan Kenyon scored Leyland’s tries.

But with the scores level as the clock ticked down, it was Haydock who took the two points after scoring twice in the final minutes.

Man of the match was Sam Dixon, and the coaches’ award for the game went to two-try Rimmer .
