Lancashire beat Derbyshire with one ball to spare in Stanley Park thriller

In match delayed by rain, the crowd at Blackpool who stayed behind were treated to a thrilling finish with the Red Rose prevailing with one deliver to spare.

Set 161 for victory in 18 overs under the Duckworth-Lewis system, they made a runaway start as they progressed to 42 without loss after four overs.

But then Derbyshire put the break on that attacking spurt as Lancashire wickets started to tumble.

By the end of the 15th over, they were reduced to 129 for five and 135 for seven in the next.

But the pairing of skipper Steven Croft and Stephen Parry unleashed an assault on the Derby bowling, plundering 19 runs in the 17th over.

It left Lancashire needing seven off the final over and it was left to Parry to hit strike the winning runs with only one delivery remaining.

Croft finished on 26 not out and Parry unbeaten on 22.

Earlier Derbyshire had made 132 for two before rain persisted rain halted their innings.

Under the D-L formula in rain-reduced matches, Lancashire needed 161 and their achievement in reaching the target will live long in the memory of the loyal crowd who witnessed it at Stanley Park.
