Lancashire batsman Luis Reece faces a spell on the sidelines after breaking his hand in a dressing room incident.
Reece, who used to play for Leyland in the Northern League Division One, has endured a torrid start to the season and has only managed to score 60 runs in seven innings at an average of 8.57.
The injury is reported to have occurred after Reece was dismissed for only two in Lancashire’s second innings against Gloucestershire earlier this week, a game the visitors won by 91 runs at Old Trafford.
“He has broken his hand,” said head coach and cricket director Ashley Giles. “He is going to be out for a long time, which is unfortunate. But it is an opportunity for someone else.
“I don’t know how he has done it. I am going to have to look into that situation and let you know. I need to speak to him and get to the bottom of it.”
Reece’s injury will leave a gap at the top of the Lancashire order, and they also need a replacement for Australia bowler Peter Siddle, whose pre-Ashes stint came to an end against Gloucestershire.
