Cheltenham Town 2 Morecambe 0

Morecambe boss Sammy McIlroy was an angry man after seeing his side's recent revival come to a crushing end at struggling Cheltenham Town on Saturday.

After winning their last two games and regaining their scoring touch, the Shrimps were confident of extending their unbeaten run against a side that had won just two games at home all season and only five matches in total.

But those hopes were dashed by a performance that McIlroy described as 'one of the worst this season'.

Said the Shrimps' boss: "I was flabbergasted by just how bad we were and I wasn't expecting it to be honest.

"I have a good set of lads and there are not many times that I have had to have a go at them this season but they let everyone down here.

"We never got going and we didn't threaten them at all."

Morecambe started brightly and the game could have been so different had Paul Mullin taken advantage of an early chance.

With just four minutes gone Mullin was put through with a clear sight of goal but shot tamely wide of the left hand post.

Dave Artell then headed a Craig Stanley free-kick over from close range as Morecambe threatened.

But things started to go against the Shrimps when they gifted Cheltenham the lead on 32 minutes.
