Whiteside beaten in World Championships
Preston boxer Lisa Whiteside suffered disappointment in the World Championships at the weekend
The 2014 world silver medal winner was beaten by Euopean champion Bulgaria’s Stoyka Petrova in the 54kg weight category in Kazakhstan.
A tall, experienced southpaw, Petrova frustrated Whiteside at every turn. She stayed on the backfoot and tapped in counters as Whiteside approached, pegging the Briton back with well-timed, flush back hands.
The Bulgarian was awarded the bout unanimously by all three judges 40-36.
