Preston trainer Johnney Roye is looking forward to one of the biggest evenings of his boxing career on Saturday night.
The former world kickboxing champion will be Tshifhiwa Munyai’s corner man as the South African takes on World Super Bantamweight champion Scott Quigg at the Manchester Arena.
The South African has been training under the watchful eye of Roye at JR Gym, in Strand Road, Preston, since arriving in this country five weeks ago.
Roye, who has more than 30 fighters signed to his stable, said: “I have been involved in big fights with Martin Murray and Ricky Hatton in the past but this is a huge night for the city, our gym and me personally.
“We have never had a boxer from our gym fight for a world title before.”
Munyai, 28, who has won the IBO world title in the past, has taken the fight at short notice after Quigg’s original opponent Nehomar Cermeno dropped out with visa problems.
“Tshifhiwa has won 24 and drawn one of 27 bouts,” said Roye. “The arena is sold out.”
