Bournemouth 1 Morecambe 0

Morecambe failed to score for the third successive away game and were made to pay with a narrow defeat at second-placed Bournemouth.

Although far from at their best, the Shrimps did enough to get something from the game, but a mixture of poor finishing and controversial decisions went against them on a frustrating afternoon.

The only goal of the game came on 18 minutes, much to Morecambe's anger.

As Andy Parrish shaped to head clear Danny Hollands' long throw he was clearly nudged in the back, but the referee failed to spot the foul and Anton ROBINSON was on hand to hammer home the loose ball from Brett Pitman's lay-off.

The frustration was to continue, as several other decisions went against Morecambe, a claim for handball in the final moments also being waved away by Steve Tanner.

Sammy McIlroy's side were well off the pace in the opening stages, and Alan Connell had a great chance to give his side the lead on three minutes. But he headed wide from close range.

Right-back Lee Bradbury then failed to test Roche from a swift counter-attack as Morecambe struggled to contain the pacy home side.

The Shrimps finally began to threaten the home goal after the half hour.

Manny Panther had a chance to race through on goal from Paul Mullin's lay-off, but his first touch was poor and the chance went begging.

Mullin was again in the thick of the action to tee up skipper Jim Bentley, but his volley was way off target as Morecambe ended the half on top.

The pressure continued after the break when Mullin diverted an excellent Garry Hunter right- wing cross inches wide of the target at full stretch, while Mullin then had a second golden chance on 83 minutes but hit the outside of the post with a shot on the turn when he should have tested Jalal.
