There was a home victory to cheer when international table tennis came to Preston last Sunday.
England took on Australia in their final preparations ahead of the Commonwealth Games which began in Glasgow this week.
And the spectators at UCLan’s Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre got exactly what they wanted, as England beat the Aussies 7-3.
The men’s team were totally dominant, winning all five of their games, while the women’s team chipped in with two wins.
The consensus of both teams was the match provided useful match competition.
Jim Clegg, from Preston Table Tennis Association, which helped organise the event, said: “Yet again, putting on this match has been a huge success and put Preston in an excellent position as a host of future international matches.
“It was the first time we have utilised the Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre for an international match, but it proved an excellent venue.
“We also managed to attract a decent crowd, who clearly enjoyed watching top-quality table tennis.”
