Adams exits with McIlroy's blessing
Crewe Alexandra and Grimsby Town have checked out defender Danny Adams after Morecambe released him from his Christie Park contract.
The 34-year-old left-back, whose deal was set to expire in the summer, helped the Shrimps win promotion to the Football League for the first time in 2007.
"Danny is a fantastic professional and I want to thank him for what he did at Morecambe, he's been a brilliant servant," said Shrimps boss Sammy McIlroy.
"He has proved one of Morecambe's most consistent players over the last couple of years.
"I've managed Danny on numerous occasions and he's never let me down.
"However, with the form of Laurence Wilson, his opportunities have been limited, and he was not an automatic choice.
"He has business interests outside of the game, but is going to continue playing and whoever he plays for in the future he'll do a great job."
Morecambe face one of their sternest tests so far tomorrow, when they make the long trip to the South Coast to face second-placed Bournemouth.
Morecambe produced their finest display of the campaign against the Cherries in December, clocking up a thumping 5-0 win.
"We were terrific that day, we scored some unbelievable goals," added McIlroy.
