A Lancashire church band is hoping to raise cash for the BBC's Children in Need appeal.
Parishioners from Fulwood Methodist Church group ThreeOneSix in Preston have recorded Poor Kid, a ballad in aid of the annual fund-raising appeal.

While it may not be the charity's official annual single, the group members, aged from 17 to 60-plus, have already received backing on the airwaves.

Their self-penned song has been played on Radio Lancashire and received a mention from Children in Need presenter and Radio 2 DJ Terry Wogan's fanclub, Togs, on its website.

Mike Cushing, who wrote the music for the ballad, said: "We want to do what we can to help people and one of my friends, who is a bit of a poet, had written these lyrics, which seemed to suit Children in Need.

"The group is a little project we set up about 10 months ago and we're keen to play stuff that's more mainstream but has a social message."

ThreeOneSix, who are named after a Biblical passage, recorded Poor Kid at Anchor Studios in Hutton.

They have raised more than £400 so far by selling CD and MP3 versions of the song at £2.50 via a website. Bank manager Mick said: "It was good to get the band in a recording studio and we just want to raise as much as we can."
