Alan Irvine says Nottingham Forest have not come up with a new bid for Preston North End skipper Paul McKenna – and that's the way he wants it to stay.
Big-spending Forest have snapped up Liverpool winger Paul Anderson for £250,000 – following hot on the heels of strikers David McGoldrick and Dele Adebola.

Last week, Deepdale chairman Derek Shaw dismissed claims Forest had made a third offer for McKenna, Preston's longest-serving player.

"I've not heard anything fresh from Forest and I don't want to either," Irvine told the Evening Post.

"I want Paul McKenna to be in my team on the first day of the season and I'm hopeful he will be.

"I made him Preston captain, and I played Paul in nearly every game last season – he's a vital part of the squad.

"He has a massive role to play here and I don't want to lose him."
Irvine stunned West Bromwich Albion by saying 'no' to the chance of taking over at The Hawthorns.

"The decision I made – to stay at Preston – I think tells the supporters that I want to strengthen the squad if that is possible.

"I want us to get better – I wouldn't have stayed if I thought we'd be weaker come August 8.

"However, if Forest do renew their interest then we'd have to look at it, and on the merit of that offer.

"It is the same for any club, you have to consider all options, for the player involved, the club and what money is on the table.

"That is the way in football, but I'm very keen for Paul McKenna to remain at Deepdale."

Interestingly PNE are the only team to have no moves in or out in the Championship. Lets hope the mainstay of the team stays and is joined by a few fresh faces soon

Excellent news.

We don't want any more bids for Kenna.

TBH i do not expect any of our first teamers to leave this summer. I know we are tied financially, but with the committment shown by AI then i think other players will follow suit.

SSL thinks very highly of AI and so do other players so i can't see any of them leaving just yet. 12 months on may be a nother story and things may be different but i really feel that this year is gonna be our push towards the Promised Land.

Things are looking brighter than 7 days ago anyway.

Onwards and Upwards.

C'Mon You Whites!!!!

Let's hope there is a NEW story soon, instead of covering old ground re: McKenna.

i think forests signing of mcgoldrick was a replacement for kenna so i can't see them coming back in for him.

as regards new faces,we have a fully fit squad at pre season training,so the inclusion of trotman, hart henderson is like 3 new faces, plus at last we have chappers back and a fit mellor and brown who where dogged by niggley injuries last season.

#4 Just what I was going to say. The long term injured will LOOK like new faces.
If Al achieved what he did with `one arm tied behind his back`, just think what is possible with a full squad. (plus one or two more - perhaps?)

It's been said before on this site, We've got enough defenders and goalkeepers to sink a battle ship, all we need is a quality goalscorer and two midfielders (one wide right) and we'll be at least a top 4 side next year.

fya how about blackwell, creswell and neil warnock in with him for the interview!!

feel free to add to the list and we will try to arrange a group discusion for them all with mr bashir.

i see dj cambell is after 9k a week in wages so i cant see us going for him.i'd still like to see michael mcindoe at bristol city in a pne shirt and he's available for free.i think he'd do well in the middle with kenna or chaplow.

I see Chris Neal has gone to Shrewsbury on a free! Wouldn't surprise me if Hawley goes on loan for the season too!
