Reports on the Continent at the weekend suggested North End had failed in a last-gasp attempt to land the 6ft 7in targetman from Sparta Prague after the two parties failed to reach an agreement.
But Deepdale chief Shaw revealed: "It is not a name that was ever mentioned to me by Alan Irvine.
"I know Alan did speak to a number of agents and made some enquiries about some players in Europe.
"But he didn't go any further with any of them because he thought the fees and wages being asked were too high.
"It never came across my desk and it wasn't something I got involved in, so we can't have been near to landing anyone.
"All I can assume is that it was merely an enquiry and it never got any further than that.
"Anyway, we took two strikers before the deadline last week and this player wasn't one of them."
