Preston North End boss Alan Irvine will have the majority of his senior squad available to him on Tuesday night as Everton visit Deepdale.
The only exceptions are Matt Hill and Jason Jarrett who both picked up minor injuries during Monday's double training session at Springfields and are unlikely to be risked.

But Simon Whaley should be available for selection after sitting out Saturday's 3-0 win at Morecambe with a slight calf strain.

Irvine said: "Jason has a dead-leg and was feeling it a little bit towards the end of the second session on Monday.

"He almost got through the whole session but just felt some pain in the last run.

"Matt missed the afternoon session with a tight groin, so we don't want to take any chances with him. It was the same with Simon Whaley on Saturday. We left him out as a precaution to stop it becoming anything more serious.

"We're being a little bit cautious. After all the hard work the players have done over the last three weeks, why take unnecessary risks?

"I've been really pleased with the fitness levels, and credit has to go to the players for the good condition they came back in – that allowed me to push them hard from the word go.

"A lot of them are saying it's the hardest pre-season they've ever done and hopefully that will pay off on the pitch when the season starts."

Shame really... I was looking forward to seeing the form JJ is in. Reports are that he may be looking the business now that he is possibly in last chance saloon. I still think he may have a lot to offer next season

At the back end of the 2005-2006 season Jarrett was the best player in the run in. Mystery still surrounds why he was left out of the squad fopr the second leg at deepdale.

When he performs he is one of the best box to box players in teh division and is keen on a tackle. HOWVER he does have a tendancy to sulk or seem not interested. He has shown that in the last 18 months but to be honest who wouldn';t be the way we have played. If he is gonna feature it is like a new signing. Same with Anyinsah.

I still remain unmoved on Brett and Karl Hawley though and feel they must leave and be replaced but who knows with AI they might love him and suddenly turn into world beaters!! Even Hawley scored the other day!!!!???

I know i am going to get slagged for this, but im not so sure that Hawley is a complete waste of space. He took a massive step up in class last season, which showed, but i also think he may just have the ability to do something for us this season, I actually thought he has a couple of traits of Nuge, nippy in and around the box and not scared to go looking for the ball. C'mon on then slag me!!!!!

I aint gonna slag you for it Kingy. I have seen good sides of Hawleys game to although i would definately have him as a squad player, but there are better players out there and i would only let him go if we replaced him with someone better or if he was no longer happy

i went to morcombe on saturday and to be honest....and im shocking myself when i say this....jarrett was looking the business. he did a far better job than carter and Mckenna in the middle. i said a few days ago on here that jarrett was "dead wood", but if he carries on the way he played at the weekend, i may be forced to retract that statement :-0

ive said for ages hawley is a out and out striker who will get into places to score, and jarrett is a top player, and no one relly knows why he's been out for so long, he's going to be like a new signing this year.

I'm quite happy to see Hawley given another season to prove himself - lets be honest he came into a team lacking confidence signed by a manager who was unpopular and then sacked...

It must have affected his confidence too and strikers are confidence players...he has some pace; can hold the ball up; can head it for a small guy and has some history as a goal scorer..

Whether this is enough for OUR level I have my doubts BUT If Irvine builds his confidence then maybe he will be a good bench player...

If I have any real concern over our strikers (other than the need to replace Brett with a younger version with real pace) then it has to be Mells ability to play 40 games (if he does he will score 20 goals) AND Browns ability to SCORE.

I do NOT doubt Brown in any other aspect of his game but his finishing looks timid and even in pre match warm ups he rarely take part in the shooting practice... ?

IF He & Mells are our strikers and ONLY ONE is scoring then it make the defenders job easier..

IF Brown can get 15 from 40 games then we will be flying! But my concern is does Brown think he can get 15? I am not sure he does !!!
