Blazing boss Alan Irvine has vowed his Preston North End team will come out fighting at Watford at the weekend after crashing to their third straight defeat last night.
The PNE manager blamed mistakes at both ends of the field for the 2-0 reverse against strugglers Swansea.

And he pledged to put things right on the training ground this week, starting with shutting a gaping back door which has now cost PNE eight goals in the last three games.

A 40-yard screamer from Dutch midfielder Ferrie Bodde after 19 minutes set the Swans on the road to victory.

Roberto Martinez's side wrapped things up 10 minutes from time from the penalty spot when debutant Jay McEveley upended Jordi Gomez and the player on loan from Espanyol made no mistake from 12 yards.

Defeat brought to an end Preston's incredible run of 33 league games without defeat on a Tuesday night at Deepdale stretching back more than seven-and-a-half years.

But Irvine was more angry about his team's wastefulness after watching them create no fewer than 20 scoring chances and miss the lot.

He was also dismayed by the defending for both Swansea goals, pointing to 'horrendous' mistakes in both cases.

"We have got two options now after these three straight defeats," he said.

"We can either roll over and die or we can come out fighting. I will leave you to decide which one we are going to do.

"The players are obviously upset at the minute, as we all are. But we will certainly be determined come the weekend, that's for sure. We will be getting right back to basics.

"We have been too easy to score against in recent games by making poor mistakes and poor decisions and they have led us to concede more in the last three matches than for some considerable time. So we will get back to that straight away.

"We will come out fighting and ready to try to put things right – at both ends of the pitch."

Come Saturday, i hope Al makes changes. Mckenna's form of late has been very poor for his standards, its ok keep targeting Carter but Mckenna is equally as poor. Jason Jarrett is a must for Saturday. Last night we didnt play with any width with two big men up front feeding off scraps. Its obvious to see we need Whaley and Wallace on the wings. I hope come 2.45 on Saturady we see several changes to the starting eleven.

just been reading the review on bbc website and a comment from the Swansea Manager concerned me..."It couldn't have been a bigger test in terms of dealing with the long ball, set-pieces and very effective and powerful players up front."

I was unable to make the game last night, but by what he says we have reverted to the long ball game. Why??? Beginning of season we were knocking it short, in triangles, a bit manu like, and it was effective. Why the sudden change to long ball???

3 defeats on the bounce after such a good start has left us shell-shocked for sure. I could not attend the game last night, but from SKy they said Preston had the pressure, with little up front. Heard this one before! We finished the game with 4 strikers on the pitch! Come on Al, get your self down to Shoemarket and buy some shooting boots for the lads! If Swansea fellas, with 1 goal away from home all season before last night, can score from 40 yards, surely so can we? When was the last time we scored from such a distance?

It's the long ball because other than Mellor everybody is too deep!

Lets face it, 4 strikers 4 shots on Target, 1 was by Mckenna at least. so were does the problem lie? You got to get the early goal to open up teams. Preston fail to do this and its showing. I think the problem we have is using the kids in reserves when really we should be using the players that didn't get a game at the weekend. Lets get this back in place and then players can properly compete for places. Until that happens we going know were.

And there is the major weakness of the "stick with the players who did a good job" policy. You play the same game week after week. eventually other teams learn to snuff out your most effective players. Time to make big changes I think.

I'm sick and tired of all those using carter as scapegoat - yes he made some poor passes, but how many did McKenna put straight into touch from a throw in - at least three that I can think of, what about Ledge's pass that led to the penalty and callum's sending off on Saturday - Carts has his limitations and I am not his biggest fan, but to use him as a scapegoat - did any of you not see that when they broke from a corner or free kick he tracked back and was our last man, he was throwing himself into tackles and not hiding - so lay off the lad - would you want to play for a team where the supporters have decided that when you make a mistake for the first time you are going to blasted for the rest of the game. Wake up he needs support, not ridicule, he was no worse than at least 6-7 others last night (Mells, Billy and Ledge excluded) - remind anyone of the supposed supporters treatment of Sedge last year.

Oh and by the way has anyone forgotten his goal against Leicester last season, I believe that went a long way to keeping us up. It's quite clear he's a confidence player, for the sake of the North End why not try to help instil that confidence rather than destroy it.

It's all down to lack of investment, they just keep spending enough to stay in the Championship, they won't invest the money to get us in the Premier League.
