Karl Hawley has agreed to spend a second month on loan in League One hoping he can impress Preston North End manager Alan Irvine better from afar than at home.
The striker turned matchwinner when he notched his second goal in six games for Northampton Town at the weekend.
And he has volunteered to extend his stay at the Sixfields Stadium assuming both clubs can rubber-stamp the deal today.
Hawley has slipped down the pecking order at PNE following the arrival of first Jon Parkin and then Stephen Elliott.
The 26-year-old last started a league game for North End in mid-April and was only getting as near as the substitutes' bench this season when the Cobblers asked to loan him.
So he jumped at the chance of regular first-team football in the hope that, with Irvine and his backroom team keeping a close eye on how he fares, it could put him back in the frame at PNE.
Four weeks on, manager Stuart Gray has been mightily impressed with the former Carlisle frontman and admits he is desperate to hang on to him for at least another month.
"I would like to keep Karl here for a bit longer," he said.
"Karl wants to stay here and I am certain he will be available for us for our game against Yeovil on Saturday."
Hawley has made a significant impact at Northampton, not only scoring twice in the month but also helping fellow strikers Adebayo Akinfenwa and Leon Constantine.
