Preston North End chairman Derek Shaw insists there is no crisis at Deepdale.
Tuesday's shock 2-0 reverse to strugglers Swansea City saw North End slump to their third successive loss and left manager Alan Irvine fuming at the manner of Preston's defeat.

It means North End have leaked eight goals in a hat-trick of defeats to Wolves, Burnley and Swansea.

"We are all disappointed because we've had a blip after a fantastic start, but there is no crisis here," said Shaw.

"It isn't a crisis, just like it wasn't a phenomenal success when we went top of the Championship last month.

"I think we have to try and put things into perspective, because on New Year's Day we were bottom of the Championship and fighting to stay in this league.

"Alan Irvine did a terrific job keeping us in this division and continues to do a terrific job in building the club again.

"He is building for the future and, like the rest of the teams in this division, you are going to suffer setbacks along the way.

"Our defeat at Turf Moor was a setback, and all of a sudden people are talking about Burnley and they are firmly in the spotlight.

"That's fine, but then you look at the table today...Burnley are one point in front of us."

Shaw added: "Look at Wolves as an example of how fortunes can change.

"Mick McCarthy was getting booed by his own fans at Molineux last season when they didn't make the play-offs.

"But he was rebuilding and reshaping the club and that's what Alan Irvine is doing here. I don't think we could argue with the result against Wolves, but suddenly McCarthy has found a winning formula andthey look an extremely strong side.

"Every manager needs precious time to do that and Alan will go on improving the team.

"This time last year we had nine points from the same number of games, but we are five points ahead of that tally and that's a positive because we've a good founadtion stone to build on.

"I think if we'd have beaten Swansea everybody would be buzzing, but maybe we've got to have a look at the bigger picture sometimes.

"Traditionally we've never started a season well and we've just had a poor couple of weeks.

"What we have to do is to stick together and put all our efforts into getting a result at Watford on Saturday."

Totally behind Alan Irvine. Afterall, the performances from January to May were outstanding, and I'm sure it will come right. AI is learning that he has to make a decision, rather than saying form will keep you in the team.

Just one question, that I would like answering.

Is Darren Carter being selected because he has to turn his form around to justify his cost and salary ?

(and sorry I lied) .. a 2nd question. What is the current status of Chaplow's injury, and will he be in the team for Watford on Saturday?

Chaplow did his hamstring again within a couple of minutes of coming on at Burnley. Think he needs time to get it right, otherwise he's going to be in and out of the team. Better to miss one or two games now rather than loads later in the season.

When has 3 defeats become a crisis? Well it,s a blip in a long season. I would rather have a blip now and see if the club can get back to winning ways, sooner rather than later. We can overcome this setback,a good settled squad will dig themselves out of this.Fair play to the chairman for jumping on this,he and the manager will sort this out. Let us all keep the faith,i am grateful we have Alan as the Manager and not a duck egg!Granted Burnley have spent a fair bit on players, that said do they have a football ground to match Deepdale,no is the answer. We have the best ground barring the big clubs,we will hit the jackpot, but we must bite our lips,go home, forget about these defeats, and return for the next game and get behind the club. I am glad we are away at Watford, the players can play better after the ear bashing dished out after the Swansea flop.Up the whites.

"a week is a long time in politcs"-harold wilson. three games is a long time in football. before wolves we were "going up as champions"! now we have a "crisis". midtable/playoffs is realistic imho. on the wolves attendance it shows what we can get, although even if we had a storming run i would not expect such a crowd again until boxing day and then feb/march. two games is a long time in cricket-just look at lancs in the county championship.

a seemingly informed fan from preesall said chaplow is out for three 3 weeks. that was on tuesday so perhaps he will be back for our next home game against reading on october 18th. i hope carter is playing so well by then that he has to wait to get back in the side!

Three defeats and the chairman has to issue a statement ???.Shure recipe for disaster. Happens to all clubs ,all managers at all levels of football. One constructive point is that in the lead up to the penalty Swansea had 3 attacking players accross the park and in each case the PNE players appeared to be wrong side of them. That said, whats needed now is full support, the `crisis` will pass, the team will gel and hopefully better times ahead.

Liam - what team do you actually support??
This is simply a blip!
9 times out of 10 we would beat the likes of Swansea.
I have total confidence in Alan Irvine. We will be challenging for a Play off this season!
up the whites!!!

No way is this a crisis. Every team goes through a bad patch and this is ours. The moaners have quickly forgot what Irvine achieved last season so give the man some breathing space to get on with the job. I have every faith in him to sort things out.
