Preston North End have been warned to expect an aerial blitzkrieg from high-flying Watford on Saturday.
Manager Alan Irvine has told his players to prepare for a bombardment from the Championship promotion favourites, with striker Darius Henderson and centre-half Danny Shittu the chief targets.

Henderson has 11 goals this season and Shittu eight, mainly from set-pieces.

"They possess a huge, physical presence and this will be an
extremely tough game for us," said Irvine before the PNE squad set out for Hertfordshire today.

"We might have beaten them at Deepdale, but this will be a much more difficult test for us."

Irvine is expected to give the nod to central defensive pair Youl Mawene and Liam Chilvers to deal with the threat from the skies, despite in-form Sean St Ledger being available again after his ban.

They dealt well with 6ft 5in frontman Kanu in the FA Cup tie with Portsmouth last weekend.

When the Hornets were stung 1-0 in Preston last month, they were without the 6ft 3in Shittu who was away with Nigeria at the African Cup of Nations.

But the 27-year-old is back and posing major problems for
defences at corners and free-kicks.

Irvine said: "He is a huge threat, a massive threat at set-pieces. We will need to be very diligent when we are defending against him.

"Watford are a good side and they will definitely be contenders for automatic promotion."

With second-placed taking on fourth-bottom, North End are hoping they can maintain their record of performing better against the top sides.

Last weekend's impressive display against Premier League Pompey has given Irvine renewed hope of surviving the drop.

He said: "It is always disappointing when you lose a game like we did on Sunday.

"But you have to reflect on the performance as well as the result and clearly it was very encouraging.

"We know we played quite well. We have had a lot of praise for how well we did, and that makes everyone feel that little bit better.

"The players have trained well, they're in good spirits. So, hopefully, we can take that into Saturday and pick up a good result."

I think we will get a good result tomorrow, personally i would put ledger in to midfield we lose to many balls in that area.he could give us that extra bite in the midfield ,should not be wasted on the bench.

I would snap someone's hand off for a draw tomorrow but i sense a backlash from tewh result up at our place. If they get an early goal..... god help us.

However, sayoing that every game is must win so come on pne shock the top teams again because if we lose tomorrow its another game down and the relegation race begins to look even more formidable!!!

7 wins out of 14 will be 7 out of 13 by tomorrow night. Sounds familiar to Simpsons target setting at the end of last season.

Tom it is only wins that save you not three draws equals a win .yo must go all out to win no matter what .If you are fighting for automatic promotion it is only wins .because draws might get you a playoff .we are fighting for automatic relegation it is Win or loose .wishing for draws only increses the agony and you have missed another shot .playing it safe now is not good ,I think !

Nothing to fear from an aerial bombardment; after all we know how good Lonergan is at claiming crosses..!
Snake, what basis have you got for saying that AI is 'a hell of a lot' better than Simpson?
Personally I rate Simpson as the worst manager we've ever had (including the Doc).
Frankly, my cat could have done a better job than PS, so Irvine didn't have much to beat.
But – let's face it – he's an L-plate manager who is not up to making the tough decisions required.
No doubt he'll 'keep the faith' with the usual suspects this afternoon and we'll get beat yet again.
What will it take to convince him these players are not good enough?
And before you ask who should be brought in... Chaplow, Anyinsah, the Polish keeper when fit, Neal otherwise, Mellor and St Ledge in midfield.
ie: Monk/Neal, Hill, Chilvs, Youl, Jones; Davidson, St Ledge, Chaplow, Anyinsah;
Brown, Mellor.
We don't know if some of those lads would be much better than the usual suspects – but they couldn't be any worse.

Just listened to Allan Irvines interview and it beggars belief!!! not once did he mention the lack of goals scored this season, he keeps going on about escaping relegation, and it going down to the wire, but unless we start scoring we are going to be down by the end of April.
