Sean St Ledger is the best, according to Preston North End fans and his Deepdale team-mates.
The centre-half picked up the club's Player of the Year award at a ceremony at Deepdale last night, with the PNE squad also voting him their Players' Player of the Year.

It completed a clean sweep of awards for the 23-year-old, who was also honoured by three supporters' groups last weekend.

He was named Player of the Year by the Preston Supporters' Group, the PNE Official Supporters' Club and PNE On-Line. St Ledger now hopes to round off the season by winning his fitness battle to play in the final game at Bristol City on Sunday.

He missed last week's 2-2 draw against Ipswich because of a hamstring strain, an injury which looked set to bring his campaign to a slightly premature end.

But the former Peterborough defender surprisingly returned to training earlier in the week and will be looking to prove his fitness to Alan Irvine ahead of the trip to the West Country.

Last night's awards bash also saw Darren Carter carry off the Goal of the Season gong for his 30-yard stunner against Leicester at the Walkers Stadium in March.

And left-back Matt Hill won the Community Icon of the Year trophy for his work away from the football pitch.

Meanwhile, Alan Irvine is ready to strengthen his squad over the summer months after securing the signature of Lewis Neal for a further year.
"It is going to be a busy summer and we've a lot of hard work ahead," said Irvine.

"I was delighted to have got Lewis Neal signed up because he is an excellent player and he gives us many other options."

Am really pleased that Sean won some more awards last night. He has been fantastic player all season for us. He fully deserves the praise of the award. Was also good to see him awarded the 3 at the weekend. Keep it up Sean . Cant wait to see you in the shirt again next season . Enjoy your break after sunday and make sure you come back fit and fighting for next season .

I know if it was a 2008 only award then Brown and Mellor may have been in with a shout but OVER THE SEASON then it must have been between St.; Chilly & Callum WHICH SHOWS THAT SIMPSON {who got the 1st two} and C. BROWN (who signed the third) can;t have been totally useless. I suppose Lonners was in with a shout too - which must be a hard to accept by those who would have hanged him at Christmas.

Well done St...

So LEP, you sense a story with the season ticket issue and write an inflammatory article which incenses the fans. But when the club listens to those complaints and addresses them, revising their policy you don't even bother printing a sidebar on it? But then, where is the news story in a club actually working WITH its fans? One begins to suspect you are far more interested in provoking controversy than promoting PNE

optimism at last ! The fact that he is 23 picked up all the awards at Peterborough and now here at PNE... let's hope he realises it's best to stay at Deepdale, and mature with the makings of an excellent squad.

Onwards and Upwards with Alan Irvine ;-)

100% deserved, he has been awesome, shame that Chilvers got injured because upto that point he was pushing him all the way. SSL or Chilvers as Captain next season. I wonder if Ledge could play defensive midfield, just in front of the back four as this is what we have been lacking a real ball winning midfielder. Well done to Darren Carter as well, I was there on that night and that for me that was the defining moment that changed our season, (he picked up the ball on the half way line skipped past 3 challenges and hit a stunning 30 yarder)he has come in for alot of unfair stick but Central midfield is not an easy position to play. Shame when we lose a game, 80/100 + comments, yet only a few on this story.

Darren I wouldn't be surprised to see Billy Jones asked to play defensive midfield. Hart looked quite good at RB and Jones has played midfield before. I just think SSL would get too carried away and break forward to often...

I also wouldn't be too surprised if Irvine goes for the 3 central midfield option aka Villa and sacrfice one of the ineffective wide men allowing the other to float around. (or a straight 4 - 3 - 3) with Brown; Mellor and Beattie.

I never think Everton are a true 4 - 4 - 2 team with 2 widemen and so he may well look how to fit in Carter; Chappy & McKenna (or Jones).

Only 4 months till we find out....

Well done Sean, thoroughly deserved on all counts. I agree that Callum must have been pretty close in getting a player of the year award, the little Scot is awesome wherever he plays!

Agree with revkeith (again, because he always makes a lot of sense on here to me) that Brown, had he played a full season for us, would be up there for an award too.
