Alan Irvine will be burning the midnight oil on Monday in order to add late recruitments to his Preston North End squad.
Speaking to the LEP ahead of Saturday's clash with Charlton Athletic, the Scot admitted that he is still working on bringing in new faces ahead of the midnight deadline.

He said: "The transfer window seems to encourage everybody to work last minute - I'm certainly expecting to be working late on Monday evening."

Irvine revealed Callum Davidson is expected to return to the fold for the Charlton game after missing two games with a knee injury - but Chris Brown remains on the sidelines
added: "He's (Brown) coming on but he's still certainly not in contention for the game."

Irvine, who denied any interest linking him with Sunderland's Anthony Stokes, also spoke of how he thought his side had progressed since taking charge of his first game against the Addicks last season, which North End lost 2-0.

Irvine said: "I think everyone can see that we have made progress. It wasn't quickly and took us until January to see things dropping into place but we certainly had a good end to last season and we've taken that in to the start of this campaign.

"I still think there's a long, long way in order to get to where we need to be."

I really hope AI can bring in a striker by the deadline. With the right type, I think we have a genuinely decent chance of having a tilt at the play-offs as the rest of the team looks pretty solid with useful cover in all areas.

Starting to sound like a broken record, Big Al is a good manager but surely we should have had people in before now and i have no doubt the manager knows who he wants. Its a long time since the end of last season in footballing terms, Firstly we were told new players are identified, then they will be coming in for pre-season, then they will be in in time for the fiendlies, then they will be in for the new season, now they will be in before the window closes.

Complete waffle if you ask me, it all smells of the coffers where firmly closed since the January signings.

This story seems a repeat of Simmo's same lines this time last year with the words Paul Simpson replaced with Alan Irvine, Recycling is good, but fans can see through it and smell it ( bull dung that is !!)

Bigtrev - has Mr Ferguson at Manu signed anyone yet? No. Is he going to? Probably. Moysie at Everton has only just started signing players. So stop your whinging. If come 00.01 tuesday morning we have signed no one then you can whinge. Until then, shut up you miserable little man!

bit strong collydog, bigtrev is only stating the obvious. this board cannot and will not make big funds avaliable. its been said time and time again, a 20 goal a season man is urgently needed and to get that man you have to spend big. as in the past we are unable to, so i fully understand were bigtrev is coming from

Collydog - Dream on !! its not whinging, read the text of my post, if theres anything untrue in it you can direct a comment in my direction you might also find it more relevent to PNE than Man Utd or Everton. Don't be an abusive little moron, theres a good little boy.

don't forget, even if we don't sign anyone by Monday midnight, the loan-window opens up shortly afterwards. Maybe that's where the available strikers may be ?

Looking forward to the Charlton game ! My glass is always half-full !

The first thing is many people seem to post negative things about Hawley and Ormerod and some others. I think the posters are in some state of dillusion.Fact number one We dont have much money for wages .We all know that .but these people are saying players are no good because they think that will make management with no money go out and buy big names .These players who you slag have to do a job for us .Hawley is At Preston because he earned the right by scoring hat trick s one division below us and being one of the best strikers in that division ,.what are you goping to say if he and ormerod score in the playoffs and put us through . the negative things you say can only make these players care less about you and Preston and more about themselves .so boost them up while they are here and wish them luck in their lives .they believe in you still
