Preston North End's pre-season preparations move up a couple of gears on Tuesday night when David Moyes returns to Deepdale with Everton.
After four games against non-league and lower division opposition, the visit of the Toffees represents a major test for Alan Irvine's men with the new campaign less than three weeks away.

Irvine admits he would have preferred to have tackled Everton a little later in the build-up but is still grateful to be welcoming his former club back to Deepdale (7.45pm).

And he'll be interested to see how his players cope against Premier League opponents on the back of their intensive training programme.

It's less than eight months since Irvine left his job as assistant to Moyes to take the North End hotseat.

So there will be plenty of familiar faces for him to catch up with before and after what should be an entertaining clash.

Irvine told the Evening Post: "I'm really looking forward to seeing David, the staff, players and the Everton fans again – they were always very good to me.

"From a wee bit of a selfish point of view, it's an important match for me because it's Everton, while from the professional side of things, it should be a great workout for our players.

"This is a huge step-up n our preparations, and that's with all due respect to the sides we have played in the last couple of weeks.

Ideally it is a step-up we would have liked to have made a little more gradually.

But Everton are away on tour soon and we're just grateful they've agreed to come on Tuesday night.

"I know David is looking forward to coming back. I speak to him regularly.

"He realises how much his career was helped by his time here as a player, as assistant manager and then as manager.

"David has a great love for Preston North End and I'm sure he'll get a warm welcome from our supporters."

Can the LEP find out why this game is being shown live on Everton's official website and we only get audio on Whites World. Seems ridiculous when the cameras are there.

No doubt cash is involved, Everton will have paid a wedge for exclusive rights. Has Whites World the capability for live pics?

It's nothing to do with money. Just Everton are most advanced than North End.
Can you imagine Ben Rhodes and Matt Morris trying to arrange that?

looking at the Everton website, £4.99 per month would get you the game at Deepdale tonight. Fine for all the ex-pats ?

Hey Man-of-Reason, nice one. Just signed up for the month with Everton TV for £4.99 as you said. Well worth it for us 'ex-pats' to now watch the game live. Pity Whites World couldn't have come up with something similar. Roll on 7-45pm tonight!

Greetings Deepdaleduck. As a Scouser living in Deal, I'm on a full passport down here. Used to live on the seafront but now in Tormore Mews. Both my brothers are Toffees and I used to watch them a lot living just near the ground. But my late dad was from Goosnargh and used to take me from Liverpool to watch Tom Finney - I was smitten from then on. A pie and gravy after the match at the cafe on station approach, then, with the LEP Pink on the train...Finney, Tommy Thompson, then the likes of Alex Dawson, Alfie Biggs, Peter Thompson...great memories. I still like to see Everton doing well but - not tonight!

p.s. Anyone thinking of paying the £4.99 (monthly)for the Everton tv website to get tonight's match live. Don't forget to cancel before the month is out otherwise you'll be on a rolling contract for the rest of the season. Cheers all.

You should have a look at the BBC 606 site. It's a bit quiet at this time of year, but there's some interesting characters!
