Preston boss Alan Irvine has shot down reports he has made a bid for Ipswich striker Alan Lee.
And the Deepdale boss has also denied enquiring about bringing Blackburn frontman Paul Gallagher back to Deepdale on a second loan deal.

But, in an interview with the Evening Post, Irvine refused to totally rule out either player as he steps up his search for reinforcements before the transfer window closes in two weeks.

"We are aware of those two players and their situations," he said. "And I certainly wouldn't rule anything in or out at this time. But, as we speak, I can tell you I have not made a bid for Alan Lee.

"I am also told we are signing Paul Gallagher on loan. Well, again, we have not made an enquiry to Blackburn about him.

"It is all speculation by the papers at this moment."

Irvine is expected to make at least two signings by the end of the month to add to Barry Nicholson and Ross Wallace who both arrived before the big kick-off.

The temperature in the transfer market has increased significantly this week now the new season is up and running.

"It's the mad season now," he said as he continued his search today.

"Everyone was being cagey waiting to find out what all their options were. Now it is going the opposite way with people
desperate to get things done."

If AI wants Gallagher then I am up for it. I thought he looked quite good dropping deep and picking up the ball, I am sure AI will gets to grips with how best to use him.

Have faith and stop moaning

Gallagher would be a top signing with mellor, since mellors so unwilling to do any running and get involved, we gallagher is a great passer of the ball, would rip some teams apart, plus mells movement on the ofside line is great, could be a good signing.

Ar Work. Do you watch football or just sit in your room writing rubbish? Anyone who goes to Northend games would know Mells runs his saocks off and is always trying to get involved. Shows how much you know. I was at Ipswich last week and he ran himself into thre ground and eventully got booked for getting too involkved.

Thank you Dawg, I'm glad someone said it. People keep saying how amazing they think AI is but then bemoaning players he might be interested in. Decide if you trust Alan's judgement, and if you do then support him in the pursuit of players.

Personally I'm happy to admit that AI knows ten times as much about football as I do, and if he thinks someone is worth getting then I'll go with it

haha, did he ek, i was there, and the only thing he did worth watching was takin a defender on at the bar line, the sliped over n put a cr..ap ball in, please PLEASE inform me of what else he did.

If you class jogging to defender to defender as running your socks of then i should be on 100grand a week.

Unlike whaley who sprinted back to his own defence to stop a pass and get a goal kick out of it, or chaplow and Mckenna never stopped closing down all game.

Window cleaner, i doubt you was at the game.

Gallagher had one good game whilst he was here and there was away at Burnley when to be honest he did play very well with Mellor and was unlucky not to score a screamer from 25 yards out.

Other than that he was a waste of a shirt.

Window i agree. Mellor does give a hard slog everytime and at work,,,,, you obviously work on saturdays to.
Im going to say no to Gallagher and Lee, i believe we need a young pacy striker who can get behind defenders and has an eye for goal
