A happy Alan Irvine said his side fully deserved three points against Crystal Palace - but admitted North End got lucky with a crucial penalty decision.
Goals from Barry Nicholson and Richard Chaplow sealed a 2-0 win at the new-look Deepdale.

But Andy Lonergan appeared to push James Scowcroft in the box five minutes after the opener - but referee Andy Woolmer waved away Palace's appeals for a penalty.

Did you think it was a penalty? Leave your comments below

Eagles boss Neil Warnock was furious about the decision - and Irvine admitted he thought it should have been a spot kick.

He said: "I thought it was a penalty. I haven't seen it again but my first impression was that it was a penalty.

"I had a look at the referee straight away and I thought it was definitely a penalty in my eyes.

"It would have been harsh on us because I thought we were by far the better team for most of the game.

"But they are big moments - game-changing moments - although I thought we could have had a penalty as well."

Warnock fumed: "Alan has seen it hasn't he? He's not daft.

"Lonergan came down the tunnel and said it was a penalty so what can you do?

"When you talk about respect, officials have got to learn respect.

"I expect officials to see something as blatant as that. It's not just one arm, it was two arms in the back of him, and I could see it on the halfway line.

"You've got to be strong and know what you're doing as officials."

The incident was right opposite from our seats and it was a clear penalty. However, the referee should have penalised scowcroft seconds before when he wrestled Lonergan to the ground at a corner kick. Any other result would have been a travesty PNE were imperious in the first half and clearly a better all round team than Palace. At last we have an effective midfield!!!

Defo penalty. However, Mells was brought down once for a clear one too. Thought Nicholson and Jones down the right hand side were top quality all game. Nicholson didn't stop running and its nice to see someone who can take a decent corner at long last. All looking positive for the season. Still need a better striker than Hawley on the bench!!!

More possession for PNE, more shots on target for PNE, more shots off target for PNE. One penalty shout each. Still, let's just focus on one penalty decision, Neil. You got what you deserved from the game and 2 nil was a fair result.

Sherriff, I see you never bothered responding after your last visit, so I'll re-post:

"Yes, Sherriff, of course you get a lot of fans - you're in the Prem. If we compare fanbases from your pre-Walker, pre-Dalgleish days things might look a bit different. Even Wigan get fans in the Prem - every town has plenty of bandwagon jumpers.

But the fact is there is no point comparing Blackburn and PNE. We'll never know where Rovers would be if Walker had not just ploughed countless millions into the club; could they have gotten to where they are now on merit? Equally, would PNE have matched Rovers success if it had been them with a cash cow? We'll never know.

We can compare ourselves with Blackpool and Burnley, because they are in similar circumstances, but PNE and Rovers are like apples and oranges.

For the record, I've nowt against Rovers, and wish them well"

And your post reminds us of another difference between us - Preston is a city, Blackburn is a town. And if Preston (pop: about 335,000) is small, what does that mean for Blackburn (pop: 137,000)?
