Former Preston North End boss Paul Simpson left Lancashire empty-handed after Morecambe ended Shrewsbury's unbeaten start to the season.
Rene Howe's fourth minute strike was enough to topple Simpson's heavyweights at Christie Park.

Howe stroked home from 12 yards from Stuart Drummond's pass to seal a welcome three points for Sammy McIlroy's men.

Howe came close to doubling the lead on 37 minutes but saw his shot tipped round the post by Luke Daniels.

Morecambe had the better of the chances in the second-half as the previous league leaders failed to seriously threaten Barry Roche's goal.

The game was only passed fit at 10am on Saturday morning after heavy rain threatened the kick-off.

Morecambe: Roche, McCann, Artell, Bentley, Parrish, Wainwright, Hunter, Drummond, Curtis, O'Carroll, Howe.
Subs: Davies, Stanley, McLachlan, Blinkhorn, McStay

Why does this warrant such prominence? Can we not just move on and allow Simpson to move on too?

Why is this under PNE, we ain't interested in the past we looking to the future. Another attempt by the LEP to rake up the past. Move on like we have and put this rubbish in the Morecambe section.

Why so much dislike for Simpson. Its not like he came here intent on making sure we did bad. Im sure he tried his best. He weren't good enough and has moved on as have Preston. If someone tries and isnt good enough it doesnt warrant people enjoying them failing in everything else they try. i for one wish him the best of luck. (unless we have to play his team)

Agree with Post 4. As in any walk of life some people just cannot cut it in certain jobs and I don't see what possible relevance the story is to North End supporters apart from whipping up those who still look backwards instead of forwards.

I know that there's a lack of North End news this weekend with us having no match but the LEP sometimes behave like such planks when it comes to Simpson related stories.

Well said posts 4 & 5. You know the LEP just read these comments, see that Simmo's name still triggers vitriolic outbursts from some areas, and figure that putting this article where PNE fans will see it might stir up some controversy. Pathetic.

What has this story got to do with Preston North End, Why is it in the Preston North End section of the LEP ??

On this occasion, I think LEP should hold their hands up and admit that they were short on news space. Common - you`ve surely got somebody on the staff who can give us some local interest.

I agree with post2.,Who gives a damn about Simpson's team.I am sure no Morecambe fans will be reading this article, they have there own paper. If there's no news conserning the first team, lets us know about the youth team, the ladies team even Deepdale Duck anything to do with North End but not Paul Simpson. His time has come and gone.Lets move on,or should i say LEP move on!

thats good some of you have realized .that Simmo is a Human being .and he tried to be succesfull at Preston .at that time it did not work out . there is no reason to be obsessed with Him ,and full of hatred and vengeance .Perhaps some of you think that he joined Preston to do well initially so he could be rewarded a healthy contract .then he planned to fail at that time because he thought it was a lost cause.at which point he figured he could go to the bottom of the league and recieve abuse from fans till he got he got sacked and payed off in full by PNe . this could be a brilliant scam artist or someone who tried .either way .he did not stab anyboby .corporate legal theft perhaps.then he is brilliant
