Former Preston North End defender Rob Edwards scored the goal at Wembley on Sunday to ensure Exeter City's return to the Football League.
The 34-year-old headed in at the far post from a right-wing corner to see off Cambridge United in the Conference play-off final, ending five years in non-league exile for the Grecians.

Edwards, who spent five seasons at Preston, said: "I don't score many goals so it's not bad is it? The most important thing was to get Exeter back into the league.

"It wasn't about coming to Wembley and wearing a nice suit."

Darn! With Wrexham being relegated from the league I was ready to set a pub quiz with the question "Which is the only football league club with an x in its name?"
Now it will have to be a two point question, one point for Exeter and one point for Crewe Alexandra.

No article about Nuge playing the last twenty of the cup final and having a shot saved? This is the first season since 1964 that PNE have lost in the cup to the eventual winners.

Ribbleton.... There are 5 teams who have all 5 vowels in their name, but 2 of them have been relegated from League 2 in recent times. Can you name them?

oops, nearly forgot. I spoke with Rob Edwards just outside the PNE Changing Rooms when my daughter was mascot against Rob Edwards old team, Bristol City, in Oct'99 (1:0 to PNE, Alex Mathie). He was greeting his old mates, and a friendly reunion it was. When chatting, I asked him if he knew his nickname, back in Bristol, was "sicknote", he didn't, he was shocked. LOL!

Anyhow, congratulations Rob Edwards on the goal and win! He was a good professional at Preston.

M-o-R: I take it you don't count the "football club" as part of the name, otherwise every 'United' would count :)

Off the top of my head:

Torquay United
Hartlepool United
Rotherham United

Can't think of any others - are the other two English?

PNE Pepe - mmm looks like I may have to eat humble pie, maybe it was 4 teams, not 5, or I have completely forgotten the 5th. However, the 4th one is definitely English, not a United, and recently relegated to the Conf. Sorry 'bout the error, but definitely "football club" is not allowed.

Anyhow, a second question, who is the only football team in the four English divisions that you cannot colour in any of the letters (ie, o,p,d,e etc)

The fifth league team that had all the vowels in their name was Maidstone United who went bust in 1992.
Up till 1958 Scunthorpe were called Scunthorpe and Lindsey United having joined the league in 1950.
