Preston North End full-back Callum Davidson is back in the Scotland squad after a six year absence.
The 32-year-old was today called up by George Burley for next week's friendly against Northern Ireland at Hampden Park.

Davidson, last capped by his country back in 2002, is one of seven Championship players in the 24-man squad.

Scotland will use the game on Wednesday as a warm-up for their opening two World Cup qualifiers next month in Macedonia and Iceland.

Davidson has played 17 times for his country. His last appearance was as a half-time sub in a 3-1 friendly win over Canada.

He caught the attention of national boss Burley at the end of last season - his best in terms of appearances for many years.

The Scotland boss said: "Callum is an experienced player who has played for Scotland in the past.

"He did very well for Preston and I watched him in a pre-season game against Motherwell.

"He is fit and injury-free and this is an opportunity to look at him.

Well done Callum. Although two games on the sat/wed before Coventry away may take it out of him (if he starts).

Another reason to rest him tonight. Although I think the cups are important to us. Get a few rounds in and some premiership opposition cos we need the money. Then hpefulyy if we're in a good league position we can strengthen in January. Or at least not have to sell the best players to balance the books.

I echo Joycey's sentiments.

Congrats to Cal especially after all the hard work and injury problems that have plagued him over the years.

HOWEVER

Purely on a selfish note i hope it doesn't cause any other problems that would prevent him from playing for PNE and take it out of him physically and mentally over the course of the season.

I also suspect if Nicholson can put in a few good performances we may have more than one member of our squad in the International set-up.
