Preston North End beat Chorley in front of boss Alan Irvine at Victory Park as their pre-season build-up continued on a winning note.
They had to wait until the 72nd minute to break the deadlock.
Brett Ormerod robbed Magpies defender Martin Clark of possession and the ball broke into the path of Neil Mellor who advanced into the box before beating sub keeper Peter Collinge with a rising shot into the roof of the net.
North End doubled their advantage in the 80th minute with a neat move down the right which was smartly finished by summer signing Barry Nicholson, the former Aberdeen midfielder firing low into the net.
Chorley gave an excellent account of themselves, with central defenders James Mullineux and Chris Smalley doing well to limit the threat of Mellor and Ormerod.
But it was Irvine's men who lifted the Jack Kirkland Trophy, presented in memory of the former Chorley chairman.
