Preston North End's Richard Chaplow has revealed just how relieved he is to have got his double hernia problem cured.
The PNE midfielder went under the knife during the international break and played just 13 days later against Newcastle.

He's the second Preston player to have the procedure this season, with goalkeeper Andrew Lonergan undergoing hernia surgery in the September break.

Chaplow had put up with the discomfort of the injury since the early weeks of the campaign, and that may have explained some below-par performances from him.

The 24-year-old said: "Anyone who has ever had one before will know that they're not nice and are tough to play with.

"So it's nice to get the operation done and I can look forward to the rest of the season.

"Throughout pre-season I'd been feeling iffy in the stomach area and it was just a matter of playing with it until we got the chance to address the situation.

"That came during the international break and fortunately I was able to get it done in time for the Newcastle game.

"I then trained twice, the gaffer put me in the team and I played 90 minutes."

Chaplow partnered Michael Tonge in the engine room against Newcastle, one of the reasons Tonge was brought in on loan from Stoke was to cover a slower recovery from Chaplow.

and now i must admit a wrong doing to Mr Richard Chaplow as i was quite willing to except a very old blackpool donkey in exchange for Richard in the past couple of months. I hope that i am not jumping the gun and this was the reason why he had been playing like an over weight puding running around Moor Park on a sunday morning! Newcastle was also a step in the right direction and it will obviously help him to have somebody of good statoury as Tongue next to him, instead of overpaid unibond league player who between them have managed to make our midfield a laughing stock this season. I wonder if the boys that have been pushed on to the bench by Tongues arrival will now sit up and come to the thinking that they better bloody pull there finger out?

Good call TK we need more bite in the centre of the park lets hope Tonge's arrival makes the boys realise their positions are not safe and they do indeed need to pull their fingers out, Carter for one needs to shape himself, because i think he's a good player but just lazy!!. I must say though welcome back Chappers because he is a good player at this level, and getting him back to full fitness is a major boost, lets hope he and Tonge can sort out our major problem in midfeild.

though I would use the same phrases as TK I concur wholeheartedly with the sentiments in #1 and I too will forgive his early season form now the reason is clear.

I think we should stick as near as possible to the teram that won last season and then maybe use Elliott & Beast at CArdiff

Thankfully they didn't send Chappie to the same German woman who was supposed to get Paul McKenna back playing in a matter of days and the poor lad ended up out of action for eight months! Watching Chaps against Newcastle he certainly looked sharper and more energetic.

Yes, I hold my hand up too - I have been saying that Chaplow has not been playing well in the last couple of months, but as so often with players it turns out they've been carrying an injury.
A goal on Monday would be very welcome too Richard!

I too have been a guilty party as many others have in slagging Chappy. Now hopefully with him and Tonge in the centre and the forwards hopefully remembering where the nets are, we can get a win on Monday and get some belief back for the Xmas push up the league.

A performance like the one at Leicester will put Blackpool to the sword.

sorry but would not have him in my team for monday, played better against newcastle but a change of formation to get the ball in the back of the net required on monday night so i would go for this. not everyone will like it.
this formation would release mellor to feed of the big front lads who could lay off the ball for him ????

lonergan
jones - collins - nolan - davidson
parry - tongue - wallace
mellor
brown - beast

I think it is just a pity the club cannot tell us when a player is playing on with an injury then the fans can be sympathetic. Chaplow has taken loads of what is now obviously unfair criticism for something that was not his fault but that no fans could know about. This has happened many times before such as with McKenna a couple of years ago and others. Come on PNE help your own players.

my word ..... all this positivity is making me dizzy.

I suggested the other day, with obvious hindsight, it's a tough call to allow a player to continue with an injury, taking the opportunity to have the operation through an International break. Clearly, with Chappers quite remarkable recovery time, he'd have been better having the Op straight away and missing a game. Better for his confidence too.

Welcome Back Chappers, and hopefully you've saved your best for Monday (and show Cliffo that you are a better midfielder than Charlie Adam!)
