Police are to review CCTV footage of Preston North End fans at Burnley's Turf Moor ground in a bid to identify the thugs who smashed up seats following their side's 3-1 defeat.
Officers have launched an investigation into ugly scenes which marred the derby clash after a 16-year-old boy from Preston was arrested at the match on suspicion of criminal damage. He has been bailed until October 6.
But despite outrage from Burnley fans over the incident, the club is unlikely to ban Preston supporters.
A section of North End's 3,000-strong support left a trail of destruction during their side's derby day defeat on Saturday. Wooden seats in the Cricket Field stand were ripped from their hinges and left littered on the floor of the stand.
It is the second year in a row North End fans have damaged seats at Turf Moor.
A spokesman for Lancashire police said: "A 16-year-old from Preston was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and bailed pending further investigation, including reviewing CCTV footage."
A Burnley FC spokesman said they were still not commenting on the incident.
But the Lancashire Evening Post understands the club has no plans to ban PNE fans or reduce their ticket allocation for future matches.
Stefan Haluk, of the Burnley Football Supporters Club, said: "It is only a minority but it happened last year. As far as I'm concerned if I was Burnley Football Club I would take a photo of it and send it to Preston with a bill.
A spokesman for the Football League said they would only get involved if Burnley FC made a complaint to them.
PNE has pledged to assist Burnley in "whatever action they want to take".
