The country's top BMX racers came to Preston to take part in the final round of the BMX National Series.
Olympic rider Shanaze Reade made a return to competitive racing action after her part in the Beijing Olympics, drawing a large crowd to London Road.

The event was hosted by the Preston Pirates BMX Club, whose members provided plenty of local success.

Ryan Brookes won the six-years-and-under race, the local youngster also winning the 12-round national series in that age category, with team-mate Alex Brookes in third.

Preston Pirates were winners in the seven-and-under section, Ross Cullen crossing the finishing line first, ahead of Finn Hall, who won the age group series – the results based on their best eight races – with Cullen fourth.

In the eight-and-under group, Euan Hunt performed well on his home track, and was runner-up in the final and fourth overall in the series.

Tony Fleming was fourth in the 19-and-over category and second in the series, while Anthony Fisher was runner-up in the 40-and-over group.

In the female seven-nine age group, Leah Clinch won the B-race, with Emily Hutchings second in the 10-12 B-race.

And Preston Pirates finished second in the national series to Peckham Challengers.

It was a rare national series outing for Reade, an early fall seeing Cheshire Ghostriders' racer finish eighth in the elite category.
