Pat Richards has set his sights on being the best goal-kicker in Super League this season.
And the Wigan Warriors ace doesn't even care if it costs him 278 cans of beer.
Richards has been a revelation with the boot since he took over the place-kicking job from Michael Dobson at the end of the 2006 campaign.
But he was pipped at the post for the title of the best goal-kicker in the top flight by Leeds' ace Kevin Sinfield at the end of last season.
The Rhinos skipper landed just one more goal, although there was considerable consolation for Richards in the shape of 278 cans of beer – one pint per point – presented by the sponsors as he still ended the season as the leading points scorer.
But the Australian would give up the free beer in return for the title of best goalkicker in 2008.
He said: "To finish the season at the top is a bit of an ambition of mine especially after I came so close last season.
"I would even give up the free beer, although the rest of the Wigan players drank most of it.
"I do practice a lot, but I needed to after taking over from Michael Dobson, because he was a bit special with the boot."
Richards – whose accurate place-kicking has booted Wigan to several thrilling victories since joining the club – would also like to open talks about extending his stay at the JJB Stadium when his current three-year deal expires this season.
As one of one of the most reliable goal-kickers in world rugby league, the 26-year-old would be in big demand, especially at home in Australia if he decided to relaunch his career in the NRL.
When he quit Wests Tigers two years ago, he was only a back-up kicker, but now his role is far more high-profile on an international stage.
But he would like to stay at Wigan, and added: "My family and I love it over here and if everything works out I'd like to stay.
"I've enjoyed my time here. This is my third year now and the time has gone so quickly."
Coach Brian Noble said: "The stats tell you he's one of the best. He kicked nine from nine in London earlier in the season and didn't look like missing.
"Since he's taken on the job, he's got to be up there with the best. At the end of the day it's the numbers that count and the lad can rarely be faulted."
However, there was a fear that Richards might miss this afternoon's game at home to Hull KR after damaging his eye in the 46-10 defeat at St Helens on Good Friday.
