Residents of a busy Preston street are being trapped inside their homes by lorries making deliveries.
Householders in Meadow Street, Deepdale, say they are fed up with heavy goods vehicles parking on the pavement outside their homes – leaving them stuck inside.

Now they are calling for something to be done before a pedestrian is killed or seriously injured.

Meadow Street boasts a number of businesses as well as a residential area, but there is little room for traffic to stop.

Robin Maudsley regularly has the doorway to his home blocked by a delivery lorry visiting a florists further down the street.

Mr Maudsley, who is disabled, said: "It's been a problem for years but is getting worse. They shouldn't be parking there.

"I've no objections to the businesses, but I do object to being unable to get out of my front door. We're putting our lives in our hands every time we leave the house."

He also had an altercation with a Dutch driver, who launched a four-letter tirade at the father-of-four after Mr Maudsley asked him not to leave the lorry on the pavement of the narrow street.

Meadow Street has parking restrictions including double yellow lines and waiting limits during the day, because the road is not wide enough to allow traffic to park down both sides.

Mr Maudsley believes installing bollards along Meadow Street would stop vehicles blocking the pavement for pedestrians and also make the road safer by keeping one half of the road clear for traffic.

A single bollard has been installed at the junction with East View, but this has been knocked down several times by heavy goods vehicles visiting the Pavilions Retail Park in Deepdale Road.

A spokesman for Lancashire County Council said: "Engineers will be visiting Meadow Street in the near future to survey the affected area to see if there are any measures that need to be taken."

They should make the street oneway or turn the old somerfied car park into a private secure carpark.

I agree with ROBIN , business should either have deliverys after 10am or before 2pm.

Yellow lines are a used as a parking aid around there, They help guide drivers onto the pavement more efficiently. Maybe the residents could hire David C
to represent them at moaning? Would save time and money.

We have the same problem with very large dutch wagons on station road. They block side streets, and don't give a stuff about our rules of the road. They are also very rude when pointed at about the way they park on the kerb.I wish they could use a local car park but the police down here don't give a stuff! I hope they sort Meadow st out,the picture above says it all.

The council must be missing out on a killing here. Get the traffic wardens down there with fixed penalty notices for parking on double yellow lines and council will make a fortune.

Might want to get them on Gamull Lane too to deal with the deliveries for the tesco there parking in a bus stop when there is a perfectly good car park at the rear!

Absolutely agree, get them all moved on, stop all parking there. That way there will be no goods in the shops and you can all go take a hike to town for it, disabled or otherwise.
You all want the convenience of local shops without the deliveries. Perhaps you could all club together and pay for a helicopter drop. That would keep the roads clear.
I doubt the trucks are there that long anyway. So use your back door if the truck is SO close you cant use the front, or just wait till its gone. Moan moan moan...The only thing Britains good at now. Should be included in the olympics, Gold for us there then.

Totally agree with Lixy but strangley agree with a comment that David C said about knowing it would be deepdale. I really can't believe that!
