See what the people of Preston think
Forget London, Liverpool or Ali G's home town of Staines – Preston is one of the most blinging places in the land.
The city's residents own the second largest amount of jewellery, beaten only by folk in Milton Keynes, according to research by Halifax Home Insurance.
And when it comes to getting blinged up, the people of Preston are fifth on the list of value of jewellery worn on a daily basis.
Whether it be hoop earrings, silver chains or gold rings, the city sees off competition from the likes of Leeds, Glasgow and Birmingham.
Peter Jackson, who owns Peter Jackson the Jeweller in Preston's St George's shopping centre, said he is surprised by the findings.
He said: "I don't think people are more likely to wear jewellery in one part of the country than another. I think it's very popular everywhere, but maybe with its city status, the people of Preston are feeling good and treating themselves."
The research also found the nation's collective jewellery box is worth a massive £52bn.
Natalie Richardson, 17, of Wildman Street in Plungington, said: "I like silver jewellery the most. I like earrings, necklaces and bracelets.
"I usually buy my jewellery from New Look and places like that. I like to look nice and make it match my outfit."
Cardinal Newman College student Lewis Jenkinson, 17, said: "Most of my jewellery is from H Samuel."I had my ear pierced from when I was 12. Most of my friends wear jewellery but I am the only one who has an ear pierced."
