Solution? Tow away cars

The solution to this parking problem is quite clear.

The idiots that continue leaving their cars in inappropriate places with complete disregard to rules, regulations and inconvenience should have their cars towed away.

Surely it is in Preston’s remit to place a few extra signs up and then enforce such regulations and, if offenders are aware there is a possibility of having their cars removed, it will work.

It certainly does in larger cities and other countries.

Try leaving your car illegally in Spain and, within minutes of a notice being issued, a tow truck arrives.

The atrocious parking around Deepdale Road continues and has been made worse by the opening of a new medical centre in the old Gutteridge Methodist church.

Are people not aware that leaving a car outside on double yellow lines is not only a traffic hazard but extremely selfish?

I follow the rules, why can’t others?

Government for all not few

Much has been written recently about the situation in the Labour Party.

I’m quite touched by people’s concern for my party. So it seems only right I look with the same interest/concern at the Conservative party.

The Labour Party has the largest membership of any political party in Europe.

The Conservative party membership has dwindled to a little over 100,000.

Recently, leading Tory Ken Clark has commented on the split in Conservative ranks over the referendum vote.

This is not surprising when the current PM, who was in the Remain group, did nothing to help that cause. It could be said she kept a foot in both camps, and the reason is obvious.

Cameron’s early demise gave her an opportunity that would never have come her way.

The continuing austerity policy has hit working people.

The pay freeze and rising housing costs have, according to the Resolution Foundation think-tank, hit SIX million families hard.

They are struggling with low wages and welfare cuts, even the critically and terminally ill have had benefits cut.

This happened while they cut the tax of top earners.

The situation in the NHS is worsening.

Trusts desperate for funding are forced to curtail some services.

Drastic action is needed to avoid a crisis throughout the NHS.

Meanwhile the Government is obsessed with bringing back grammar schools which single out children from an early age.

History tells us much.

The Emperor Nero fiddled while Rome burned, because he was an ineffectual leader in time of crisis.

How big a crisis do we need in the NHS before our Government begins to care for all instead of the few?

Impatience can injure or kill

I am at the end of my tether with dangerous drivers jumping red lights when I am crossing with children. Please have consideration. It’s not worth doing it to save just over a minute.

It’s only a matter of time before someone gets seriously injured or worse.

Grateful for kind helpers

Could I say a thank you to the kind people who came to my rescue when I slipped in Astley Park on Thursday, September 29? I am especially grateful for the considerate help given by a local cyclist.

Vision of life in Labour’s Utopia

We now know the Labour Party is an out and out socialist organisation. No problem with that.

Names don’t matter, actions matter.

What countries can we identify in the past and now where socialism was or is a success?

In the past, I had a political discussion with a hard left socialist who believed passionately that the Berlin Wall was built to stop the oppressed West Germans escaping the evil capitalist society to join the socialist dream of East Germany. Yes, he was serious!

That’s the past, now we have the dream socialist state of Venezuela.

Labour Party leader Comrade Corbyn states: “When we celebrate, and it is a cause for celebration, the achievements of Venezuela, in jobs, in housing, in health, in education, but above all its role in the whole world.”

The truth is massive unemployment, laws passed to force people to work in the fields, hospitals closing because of lack of drugs, people queuing for hours to purchase the basics, inflation 450 per cent, press freedom curtailed, television stations closed down because they had the temerity to criticise the government and pupils too hungry to walk to school.

Brothers, I can’t wait to be governed and live in your Labour’s Utopia!

Logic failing at leader election

Darryl Ashton, whilst admittedly tongue-in-cheek, joins all those others who acclaim Jeremy Corbyn as the undoubted leader of Labour on the basis of a couple of hundreds of thousands votes in a party members’ election (letters September 20).

I think there is a failure of logic here when one considers that many millions of the electorate sent 232 Labour MPs to Westminister, the majority of whom do not support Jeremy Corbyn as their leader.

Maybe he is a sort of chairman of the Labour Party but logic suggests that those duly voted into Parliament by the electorate should themselves elect a leader for the purposes of Parliamentary business.

But I write only about logic, not with any fervour. Personally I don’t care what they do!
