Your guide to getting a job
Got the post Christmas blues? Well we can't do anything about the weather but we may be able to get your bank balance back to black.
Our first Student guide to Preston for 2008, focuses on getting a job - from what to wear, to writing your CV, approaching potential employers and getting through the interview process.
And in a shake up to the usual format, this guide sees a jobless student - acted by third year journalism student Ricki Dewsbury - go from scruffy and poor to picking up his job offer from the door.
Ricki said: "We wanted to try a light hearted approach this time, where I act the part of the student, in this case, needing to find a job, and the camera follows me through the process of getting a job - with a voice over guiding me to success."
"There are plenty of comedy moments but the message isn't a joke - for example, the dressing smartly part is really important. If you are going for a certain type of job you can't turn up in cut off jeans - or that you should take time over your CV as it's the first thing a potential employer will see."
This guide is part of the new student website designed to promote the work of journalism students in the city, by offering a platform for both written, and audio-visual content on www.lep.co.uk.
