Preston-based company Mad Science is in the running for a top honour in the What’s On 4 Junior Awards.

The awards programme, now in its eight year, celebrates the best activities, classes, volunteers and venues from throughout the UK as nominated and voted for by the experts – parents.

Mad Science, based at Walton Summit, Preston, is a finalist in the best national activity for children aged five to 11, which means that they are in the top few providers in the UK.

Nearly 90,000 votes in total were cast from all across the UK, Ireland and Australia.

Mad Science provides inspiring and fun science activities for kids, from after-school programmes to holiday camps and even large family fun events.

Started in 2006, the company has grown to employ 80 staff across the region and has picked up a number of awards along the way.

Among them was Business Woman of the year 2013 at the Be Inspired Business Awards for owner/manager Caroline Chesworth.

Dr Chesworth said: “We are thrilled to be finalists in these awards especially because it was voted for by parents. It’s a huge pat on the back for our team and proves we are succeeding in making science popular with kids.”

The winners of the awards will be announced on June 20 at the official ceremony at Drayton Manor, Staffordshire.

What’s On 4 UK is an award- winning business with on-line directories providing comprehensive and up to date details of activities and party services for children,

A What’s On 4 UK spokesman said: “We have received a record number of votes and it’s been a very closely fought contest.

“All of our finalists should be very proud to be held in such high esteem by the nation’s parents and we can’t wait to reveal the winners.”
