Police have issued a yobs stay away warning ahead of the Penwortham Gala this weekend.
Officer PC Dave Gelson took to the South Ribble Police Facebook page to say there will be a ‘substantial policing operation’ to prevent anti-social behaviour after incidents in previous years.
He said: “Historically, the day has gone very well for the vast majority, though there have been occasional incidents where a small number of youths have chosen to spoil this, by partaking in anti-social behaviour resulting in criminal damage being caused to properties (including eggs being thrown at them), and fights between individuals or rival groups – usually after drinking alcohol.
“It is the job of Lancashire Police to prevent this from happening.
“There will be a substantial policing operation on the day, to ensure the smooth running of the event, and to reinforce our aim, that the Public are safe and they remember the day for its good points, rather than it being spoiled by the minority.
“Any person responsible for disrupting this objective will be dealt with robustly by police, and their actions could result in them obtaining a criminal record.
“Please take notice of this advice, and enjoy yourselves. Don’t be led astray or tempted by anyone, to do something that may get you in trouble.”
The annual gala takes place on Saturday, June 11.
