X Factor singer performs at Lancashire school

Schoolgirl Devon Nicholls got her "best birthday present ever" when she turned up to her school assembly.

The 12-year-old Ingol pupil found herself on stage singing alongside X Factor finalist Lucie Jones.

The Welsh wannabe star wowed an audience of pupils at Preston's Fulwood Academy before handing out certificates and prizes for good attendance.

The special assembly was organised to reward the 217 youngsters who have put in 100% attendance this term.

Devon, who only started at the Black Bull Lane school in September, was among them.

She said: "We had heard rumours that Lucie was coming but that's all it was... then she turned up.

"I couldn't believe it when I was up there on stage. I was in assembly and was bearing some badges because it was my birthday and I was singing along quite loudly, then the next thing I was called up on stage to sing with her.

"I was shocked but excited. I was kind of nervous

because there were so many people there.

"I sang about a verse with her then got down.

"It was my best birthday present ever and couldn't wait to go home to tell my mum.

"I liked Lucie and voted for her on X Factor.

"She shouldn't have left and should be in there now."

Before leaving the school, Lucie – who sang four songs – signed

autographs and chatted to pupils.
