X Factor Jamie to switch on lights

X Factor rocker Jamie Archer will now switch on Preston's Christmas lights this week.

Organisers have revealed the star, who was booted out of the hit show last weekend, will replace fellow X Factor contestant Lucie Jones who has had to pull out at the last minute due to television commitments.

Pop band Alphabeat have also been confirmed as a late addition for more than three hours of music on the city's Flag Market on Saturday afternoon.

Babs Murphy, of organisers the Preston Business Improvement District (BID), said: "It is disappointing that Lucie cannot make the switch-on but are delighted to have Jamie as a replacement.

"By the time he is on the Flag Market it will be less than a week since Jamie left the X Factor, so there is no doubt Preston has not been sold short.

"Alphabeat are another great addition to the line-up and we are sure that thousands will turn out for the switch-on."

Laura White, the soulful singer from Wigan who was in last year's X Factor, will open the event at 2pm followed by youngster Holly Steel who starred in the last series of Britain's Got Talent and Longton-based guitarist Mike Dignam.

They will be followed by Alphabeat, girl band Mini Viva, former Bucks Fizz member Sally Jaxx before Jamie Archer takes to the stage for the switch-on.
