X-Factor winner Matt Cardle dropped in to Preston radio station Rock FM yesterday to celebrate their 30th birthday.
The star, who won the seventh series of the TV talent show, chatted and posed for photos with 60 fans and their friends who had won a competition to meet him.
He then performed a very special intimate acoustic set for them in the station’s foyer.
He also recorded an interview with Rock FM’s Drive Time presenter Matt Spokes which will be broadcast in the coming days.
Station staff also handed out special cupcakes iced with a 30th birthday message to celebrate their anniversary.
The star appeared as part of a radio station tour he is undertaking as he prepares to release his eagerly awaited second album, The Fire, on October 29.
This will be his first album after splitting with major label Columbia and the follow up to his debut smash, The Letter.
He played a five song gig featuring acoustic versions of tunes including his X-Factor hit, When We Collide and a cover of the Gotye hit, Somebody That I Used To Know.
He finished the show by playing his forthcoming single, It’s Only Love, which is to be released on the same day as his new album.
The star enjoyed his visit and said later: “It was brilliant, absolutely brilliant. It was a lot of fun.
“We’ve been down to Rock FM before, we were here last year at about this time, in fact. It’s always great.
“They tried to feed me cupcakes - I think they made too many! They gave me some to take away. I’ll have to scoff them when I get home.”
He is thrilled to be releasing his second album and said: “I can’t wait. It comes out on the 29th and I’m super-excited about it.
“We switched labels because I wanted to have more control and I achieved that by switching labels.
“I wrote and produced this album so I am really pleased with it. I can’t wait for it to be out.”
Rock FM’s deputy programme director Jamie Wood said: “All the fans got to see Matt up close in nice intimate surroundings.
“it was really nice to have an event here for our 30th where we have been from the start.
“Matt is a really nice guy. He has done stuff with us before and he is always great.
“He came out and did a picture with every fan so everyone got a photo with him and met him briefly.
“it’s been a great day and it’s a nice way to say thank you to the listeners who have helped us to get to 30 years.”
