Would-be parent assassin locked up
A man who plotted to kill his friend's parents has been locked up indefinitely.
Shaun Skarnes, 20, must serve a minimum of three-and-a-half-years in prison for his part in a plot to kill Christopher and Elizabeth Monks, the parents of his friend, Christopher Monks Jr.
He was given an indefinite custodial sentence for public protection at Preston Crown Court on Thursday.
Skarnes, of Ellesmere Port, hatched a plan to murder the couple at their home in Preston Road, Clayton-le-Woods, Chorley, after meeting Christopher Monks Jr on a website.
Monks, 25, was also convicted of conspiracy to murder the couple and was sentenced to a hospital order under the Mental Health Act, after Preston Crown Court heard he had Asperger's Syndrome, a form of autism.
Monks will receive treatment at a specialist hospital until experts deem him ready to be released.
