A top waterskier from the Fylde coast has died aged 52.

Andy Mapple, widely recognised as one of the world’s best waterskiers, won more professional slalom titles than anyone in the history of the sport.

He died on Saturday in Florida, America.

Mr Mapple, who was born in Lytham and grew up in Warton, became one of the sport’s biggest names after winning his first world title at the age of 19.

His record at slalom was outstanding with 11 world records, 14 US Masters titles, 10 US Open wins and a total of 169 professional victories worldwide.

Tributes were paid on social media to the former Carr Hill High School student, who leaves wife Deena and their two children, Michael and Elyssa.
