Work has begun on a £3m transformation of Lancashire County Council’s Tower Wood Centre on the shores of Lake Windermere.

The outdoor education centre is to become home to a new accommodation building – allowing thousands of visitors to stay on site during their visit.

Council chiefs have cut the first turf and say they can’t wait to see the building rise from the ground.

County Coun leader Geoff Driver said: “Tower Wood is a place that many of our young people remember fondly for the rest of their lives because of their experiences here, and this investment will help it make an even bigger and better contribution in future.”
