THE community woodland area at Middleton Nature Reserve in Lancaster has now reopened after the completion of Dong Energy’s windfarm cableway works.

Lancaster Council owns the land and has been working with Dong Energy and Lancashire Wildlife Trust to enable improvements to be made to the area whilst allowing Dong to install windfarm cables across the wood.

As part of the reinstatement of the area, Dong Energy have upgraded pathways and installed new disabled access kissing gates and horse stepover gates, providing access for pedestrians, horse riders and wheelchair/ mobility scooter users.

The new gates are designed to deter motorbike and quad bike riding in the Community Woodland area, making the paths safer for all.

The reinstatement of the area will also include hedge planting and the installation of amphibian refuges.

The site is managed by Lancashire Wildlife Trust.
