Woman passenger dies after vehicle hits wall in Lancaster

A 48-year-old woman died when the vehicle she was travelling in collided with a wall in Lancaster last night.

The woman was a front seat passenger in a 4x4 type vehicle which was travelling from Lancaster towards Caton on Low Road when the collision happened on a right hand bend.

Following the incident, at around 10.15pm, the car came to rest in flood water.

The woman was taken to Royal Lancaster Infirmary with serious head injuries where she later died.

The driver, a 43-year-old man from Runcorn, has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and causing death by dangerous driving.

He currently remains in police custody.

PS Steven Wignall, of the Road Policing Team, said: “We would urge anyone who witnessed this collision to get in touch with us as soon as possible so we can establish exactly how the collision came to occur.”

At this time officers are still trying to trace the woman’s next of kin.
